President and Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Graeme Macaloney, P.Eng., FIChemE. As the President and CEO of QSV Biologics Ltd., Dr. Macaloney brings over 20 years international industry experience and insight to the vision and implementation of our business. He is a naturalized Alberta-Canadian, originally from Scotland, with a commitment to service and delivery that is underscored by the fact that he is the individual who conceptualized and built this business. His philosophy and that of our company is encapsulated by the QSV acronym: "Quality and Speed build Value". With BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in Applied Microbiology and Bioprocess Engineering, Dr. Macaloney previously worked with some of the world's leading pharmaceutical firms including Pfizer Inc., and Eli Lilly & Co. Initially working with Pfizer in their International Process Development Group, in Sandwich U.K., Dr. Macaloney worked on a variety of processes and novel fermenter designs at scales from 2L to 100,000L. Following this he was recruited to Canada to work as a Project Manager with the Alberta Research Council. Here he developed and consulted on a wide variety of processes including biopharmaceuticals, animal health products, fine chemicals, agricultural inoculants and food products. As a Project Manager he was involved in business development, process design, implementation and scale-up, and in facility design. From here, Dr. Macaloney was recruited to the UK by Eli Lilly to build a process development / manufacturing group in support of three major areas. These were the continuous process improvement of established antibiotic fermentations in a 3 million litre cGMP fermentation manufacturing plant; the annual cGMP fermentation manufacturing campaign for recombinant human growth hormone; and the trans-Atlantic transfer of a recombinant haemglobin process and scale-up through 8,000L to 50,000L, which at the time was the world's largest biologic process. Also at Lilly, Dr. Macaloney conceptualized and championed a number of technology development consortia valued at over $5 million and involving biopharmaceutical firms, equipment vendors, government and world-leading academic groups. After Eli Lilly, Dr. Macaloney was recruited back to Canada to manage a national proteomics network, PENCE Inc. Here his responsibilities covered R&D management, marketing, intellectual property management, and spin-off company creation and financing. In this role, he networked extensively with big pharma, biopharma, leading academics, government, and venture capitalists. Following PENCE Inc., he founded his own consulting firm Biovation Inc. during which time he assisted in the formation of a local angel investor network (Deal Generator), helped conceptualize a national biomanufacturing network (Canadian Biomanufacturing Institute), and initiated a new venture capital fund concept for Alberta. Dr. Macaloney has contributed at the Board/Steering level to Deal Generator, PENCE Inc., WestLINK Innovation Network (founding member), Genome Prairie (founding member for this $96M national initiative), Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Carbohydrate Science, Biovation Inc., and QSV Biologics Ltd. He was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, an honour reserved for the top 7% of engineers who have made a significant contribution to their profession. Advisors
